La Giara is a plateau of volcanic origin. It is an impregnable fortress, which stands in a landscape of plains and rolling hills. Basaltic rocks, forests of oak and cork trees, Mediterranean vegetation, rare plant species, wetlands, and, above all, the wild horses of the Giara, an ancient race living, still free, only in this area. On the edges of the plateau there are the remains of 23 nuraghi (II millennium BC) built by ancient inhabitants of Sardinia.
